What a great time to be an accountant in Sunderland. It’s a wonderful location to progress a career and take advantage of the growing opportunities that exist all around us. Indeed, so confident is Torgersens in the future of the city, we have invested in new offices for our growing Sunderland team, and we have some fantastic accountancy jobs on offer – right now. (More about these later in this article).

Sunderland is special. It has a great history and now has a fabulous future. It is a city by the sea, with glorious beaches, just a ten-minute walk from the centre. It is also a forward-thinking city, embracing pioneering urban development and making the most of its natural assets.

The skyline is changing by the day. Sunderland is a dynamic place to live, work and play, with hundreds of millions of pounds in investment pouring into key development sites. This is creating thousands of new homes, new workplaces and jobs, and is cultivating a sustainable and vibrant hub for businesses to grow. Businesses like Torgersens, which is offering a range of accountancy jobs in Sunderland.

From our vantage point on the riverside, we overlook an array of office blocks and community resources and, fingers crossed, one of the world’s largest film studios providing thousands of high quality jobs.

Don’t just take our word for it. Here are three reasons why Sunderland is a great place to live, work and play.

To live

Riverside Sunderland is set to be a great place to live – for people of all ages, for families, key workers and young people. The development of 1,000 new homes in Riverside Sunderland will double the population of the city centre and create a vibrant new community.

City centre living will be redefined with a choice of stunning houses and apartments to rent or buy, including four new neighbourhoods overlooking the river. They will enjoy spectacular views and access to local services, community gardens and green spaces – all just a short walk from city centre shops, entertainment and transport.

Also making an appearance is the much-loved Sunderland cottage. Made in Sunderland, these homes will offer the best in contemporary living: factory-built to the highest standards, energy efficient, technology-enabled, and super-connected to the city’s emerging 5G network.

To work

The creation of a new central business district is one of the key elements of the Riverside Sunderland Masterplan. When fully developed, it will provide more than 1 million square feet of high quality office space, tailored to the needs of leading UK and international businesses. It will offer space for 8,000 - 10,000 jobs, generating footfall and expenditure across the city centre.

Sunderland is already an international city, home to Nissan and major brands like Nike, Tombola, Barclays and Berghaus. The new central business district will enrich and diversify the city’s offer, providing modern workspace in a smart city centre environment with superfast connectivity. Inward investors are being attracted by access to a rich talent pool, including graduates of the region’s five universities, an accessible location and excellent digital and transport connections.

To play

At the heart of the new urban quarter is the revitalised Riverside Park, which includes the valley of Galley’s Gill, both banks of the River Wear and bands of woodland. This will be restored to create a superb people’s park, with an improved paths network, lighting, new spaces for play and exercise, a café-pavilion and a dedicated site for community growing.

A year-round programme of events and festivities will animate the space and attract visitors. Woodland management, planting and a new maintenance regime will enhance the biodiversity value of the whole site, creating new habitats for birds, insects and mammals.

With so much positive change taking place, Sunderland is truly going places and Torgersens is delighted to be part of the transformation
