If your business is having an issue filing an MTD for VAT return, it could be that your MTD software needs to be reauthorised.

HMRC requires that MTD software be reauthorised at least once every 18 months. There have been increasing reports of submission failures resulting from the need to reauthorise software. This is perhaps unsurprising given that the introduction of MTD for VAT was April 2019.

What to do

If you are experiencing problems with your MTD for VAT software, contact your software provider and request that they reauthorise it.

What is Making Tax Digital for VAT?

Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT is the first step in a government initiative to move virtually all tax and National Insurance Contribution management and payments online.

If you are a VAT-registered business with a taxable turnover exceeding the VAT registration threshold (currently £85,000) you must keep digital records for VAT purposes and send VAT return information to HMRC through MTD compatible software.

There are some exemptions from MTD. Further details about these can be found on gov.uk website here
