This month our interview is with Sean Blackhall, Senior Account Manager based at our Gosforth office. Sean gives us an insight into his role at Torgersens and his interests outside of work.
About Sean’s role
What does your role entail?
I manage a portfolio of clients for whom I prepare statutory and management accounts, corporation tax and VAT returns. I am also responsible for allocating clients to team members and coordinating work for new and junior members of the accounts team at the Gosforth office.
Since achieving my ACCA membership my role is starting to evolve to include more responsibilities such as taking client accounts review meetings and soon, reviewing accounts.
What do you look forward to most when you start work each day?
The staff. We have a very good team at the Gosforth office, whether they have been with the company for just a few years or a few decades we all get along very well. There is a lot to be said for enjoying your job and a friendly, welcoming environment certainly helps that.
Outside of work
When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?
I am a big fan of video games and films, particularly horror films. I also recently started to play the bass guitar again having not played since I was about fifteen.
What are your top tips for a relaxing day?
A day trip out with the family, especially to York. My wife went to university there, so we try to visit a couple of times a year. Usually just to have a nice walk around the city and then a meal out.
When not out and about a nice takeaway and a glass of wine or spiced rum goes down a treat.
Favourites
What is your favourite song and what do you like about it?
I like all sorts of music. If I had to pick just one, it would be Nothing Else Matters by Metallica, it’s a song which reminds me of camping trips with my dad and brothers as it was the type of music my dad would have on in the car.
And your favourite food?
That depends on if I am out at a restaurant or in the house. If I am eating out, roast belly pork is hard to beat plus if there is a Crème Brulée on the menu I will always order it. If I am eating at home, toad in the hole with roast potatoes is probably my favourite meal.
And finally…
If you could travel anywhere tomorrow, where would you go and why?
I would love to go to Japan. Luckily, it’s also high on the list for my wife and daughters so I imagine at some point I will get a chance to go.
