We recently said a very fond farewell to Stephen Torgersen, who retired from our firm after 49 years.

Stephen is the son of one of the founders of Torgersens. He joined his father and two other chartered accountants in partnership in 1973 when the firm was trading as Milburn Torgersen.

Over the years, Stephen has worked with a wide range of clients including co-operative enterprises and housing associations. He developed a specialist knowledge of the agriculture, farming and horticulture sectors and has made lots of friends within his wide client base.

Commenting on his retirement, Stephen said, ‘It has been an honour and a privilege to have worked with many outstanding people over the years. I leave the firm in the very safe hands of my fellow partners under whose leadership the business will continue to flourish. I am proud to have been a member of the firm and that it will continue to bear my name.’

Martin Johnson, one of Stephen’s fellow partners said, ‘It was Stephen who interviewed me for a role at the firm back in 1984 and it has been a real pleasure to work for him and then with him as one of the partners, ever since. His quiet wisdom, shrewd business knowledge and ability to identify what really matters in any business situation have been helpful to me, the firm and its clients throughout his many years with us. He will be sorely missed, but he leaves us with our best wishes for the very happy, healthy retirement he deserves.'
